Man United scouting £32m defender with bright future

Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte has been steadily making a name for himself in club and country – and he’s only 21. He has been rated so highly that the La Liga outfit have slapped a £32 million release clause on him – but that may not be enough to discourage Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

According to the Metro, Man United have identified Laporte as one of their summer transfer targets, and may have an inside track to the French starlet thanks to the close relationship between Woodward and Laporte’s agent Jorge Mendes.

The 21-year-old back has made over 135 appearances for Bilbao since making his senior debut in 2012. This year he has set a career high with five goals in all competitions.

Manchester United have suffered numerous injuries on defence this season, losing Luke Shaw for the year early in the season while also losing Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones to injury spells.
