Man United legend says Ryan Giggs can be next Pep Guardiola

Speculation has run rampant as to who will replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United. From Pep Guardiola (prior to the Man City announcement) to Jose Mourinho, some of the best coaching candidates on the market have been linked to the top job at Old Trafford. However, Bryan Robson believes that the next great Man United manager is already a member of the club: assistant manager Ryan Giggs.

In an interview with The Sun, Robson gave a big vote of confidence to the legendary Red Devils midfielder who now serves as Louis van Gaal’s assistant. Robson noted that Giggs can have a situation similar to Pep Guardiola, who played most of his football career for Barcelona and was later hired as the Barcelona B manager before being promoted to the top job.

‘Ryan really can be the Pep Guardiola of United, I am sure of it. Yes, he’s a quiet lad but that should make no difference,’ Robson said.

‘He has always been a deep thinker on the game. He’s worked hard to get to this point. They talk about Guardiola being intelligent and having a great football brain.

‘Ryan is no different. He just needs the chance to prove what he can do — once Louis van Gaal goes.’

Robson played 14 seasons as Manchester United, including five with Ryan Giggs during which the duo won a pair of Premier League titles and European Cups.
