Anthony Martial reveals former Manchester United star played key role in his move

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has revealed that former Red Devils left-back Patrice Evra convinced him to sign for the club.

The French international became the most expensive teenager in football history last summer when he joined United in an initial £36m move from Monaco.

It followed the same move that Evra made in 2006, with the diminutive full back moving on to Juventus in 2014 after a highly successful spell at Old Trafford.

It appears as though Evra still holds great affection for the club, as despite his loyalties lying elsewhere, he had time to discuss the switch with Martial and persuade him that it would be a great move.

“Patrice Evra told me it was a ‘club of champions’, a club that above all else wants to win, and certainly since I arrived here I’ve felt that for myself too,” Martial told Inside United magazine.

“He lives in the same town as me in France and has only ever had good things to say to me about the club.

“He talks about us all the time and he’s told me that he spent his very best years as a player here so I reckon he is still very attached to this club.”

The youngster has made an immediate impact with his new club having scored six goals and provided three assists in 20 league appearances so far this season.

Although he has been compared to a young Thierry Henry, Martial revealed in the interview that the likes of Ronaldinho and Ronaldo inspired him to be a footballer, and he now hopes to win silverware at United while trying to come as close as possible to their personal achievements too.
