Jose Mourinho to be given £300m war chest at Man United & is only eyeing world-class talent

Jose Mourinho will be given £300m to spend on reassembling the squad if he takes over at Manchester United in the summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Daily Star reports that the former Chelsea boss is being lined up to replace Louis van Gaal as United aim to keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

An Old Trafford source is quoted by the Daily Star as saying: “If Jose comes in he will be given whatever it takes to make United the best again.

“But it isn’t just about how much is spent, what matters is how it is spent because United need the right players to take them forward. Only genuine world class stars will be looked at.”

The Daily Star understands that Neymar, Edinson Cavani, Thomas Muller, Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane would be the calibre of talent that Mourinho would have his sights on.

Red Devils supporters will hope that the Special One spends his war chest more wisely than Van Gaal, whose £250m spending – sum reported by the Daily Star – has been a mixed bag to say the least.

There have been some success stories – such as Anthony Martial and Daley Blind – but the signings of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin have not worked out.

United are probably in need of additions from back to front, but an experienced centre-back and a prolific number nine might be where Mourinho starts his squad strengthening.
