Neymar transfer news: Barcelona insist Brazilian ‘certain’ to extend deal

Barcelona star Neymar will sign a contract renewal with the Spanish giants, that’s according to vice-president Carles Vilarrubi.

The Brazilian international is under contract with the Catalan side until 2018, but there have been reports that both Manchester United and Manchester City are monitoring his situation.

While Neymar has already conceded that he would love to play for Pep Guardiola, who will replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad at the end of the season, speculation has continued to suggest that he could be heading for an exit in the summer.

However, Vilarrubi is confident that that won’t be the case and expects the former Santos star to sign a contract extension with Barca sooner rather than later.

“Neymar will renew his contract,” he told Radio Catalunya, as reported by Sky Sports. “It will be when he wants, and when the club wants. We are absolutely certain.

“He is committed to the team and is happy with his team-mates. The club gives him a lot of happiness.”

Vilarrubi also moved to dismiss talk of exits for the likes of Sergio Busquets and Ter Stegen, with the La Liga and European champions undoubtedly hoping to keep their current squad together for as long as possible.

As the records continue to tumble under Luis Enrique, it remains to be seen whether or not the Spanish tactician will have all of his current stars at his disposal next season with Guardiola perhaps likely to try his luck and secure a reunion with some of his former players in Manchester.
