Top of the table Barcelona are heavily favoured to see off the challenge of a visiting Celta Vigo side later this evening.
The Catalan giants are currently top of the table with a point advantage over second placed Real Madrid.
Anything other than a victory would be totally unacceptable for the league leaders as they seek to open up a gap between themselves and the chasing sides at the top of La Liga.
Only three points currently separate Barcelona from third place Atletico Madrid as Luis Enrique’s side go in search of their 6th consecutive win, although the boss is taking nothing for granted, telling fcbarcelona.com:
“We know that they are missing a lot of players, but their style of play remains the same. They love to keep the ball and I think they can make life difficult for us … They are a dangerous opponent; bold, brave, dominating all facets of the game and are attractive to watch.”
La Liga is shaping up to be a three horse race and every match counts. Celta Vigo, meanwhile, are in seventh position and will be looking to remain in contention for a Europa league place.
Lionel Messi is making his return to the Barcelona starting lineup after missing their most recent match due to medical testing.
Despite Barcelona’s automatic status as favourites in almost every match, they will not be naive heading into this match – Celta Vigo are one of the sides who have managed to defeat Barcelona this year.
Most recently, Barcelona showed they are not invincible, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Valencia, albeit in the second leg of a cup fixture in which they held a seven goal advantage.
Arda Turan is also available for selection on Sunday after missing the most recent game due to a slight knock.
Celta Vigo have had a tough time as of late in all competitions, struggling to find a win anywhere.
They have managed two back to back draws against Sevilla, which aren’t unimpressive considering that Sevilla currently occupy fifth place in the league table.
Less impressively, the visiting side for Sunday’s encounter have also been defeated by Las Palmas.
The one victory for Celta Vigo as of late came against Atletico Madrid, an away match in the cup which Celta Vigo managed to win by three goals to two.
The visitors have showed several times this season they are capable of beating bigger sides, and they will be hoping for another upset on Sunday.
With a full strength side available for selection Barcelona will be keen to strike a decisive victory and open up a four point gap between themselves and Real Madrid in the league.
Barcelona currently hold two games in hand, but they will be keen to avoid letting their winless run stretch to two games.
Look for Lionel Messi to make a statement in his return to the side by scoring and helping Barcelona to all three points.
