Video: Messi and Suarez penalty the pinnacle as Barcelona devastate Celta Vigo

Barcelona were at their absolute best on Sunday, as they devastated Celta Vigo 6-1 in La Liga action.

The pinnacle of their remarkable demolition came in the 82nd minute, when Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez pulled off a sublime penalty trick to humiliate beleaguered Celta.

By this point, Barcelona were already 3-1 up, with John Guidetti’s first-half penalty countered by a free kick from Messi and a Suarez brace.

Late on, the Argentine superstar won a penalty when he befuddled a defender in the box before being brought down.

Messi stepped up to take the spot kick, but instead of striking it past the unfortunate Sergio Alvarez, he rolled it to his right for the onrushing Suarez to slam it past the Celta goalkeeper.

The moment of genius was perhaps something of a homage to Barca great Johan Cruyff, who attempted something similar during his time with Ajax.

However, Arsenal fans may also recall—somewhat uncomfortably—when Thierry Henry and Robert Pires tried something similar, only to fail embarrassingly!

The rout wasn’t finished—unfortunately for Celta—as Ivan Rakitic and Neymar found the net inside the final 10 minutes of the match to devastated the visitors and re-establish Barca’s three-point advantage at the top of the table.
