Werder Bremen confirm they want Chelsea star on long-term deal

Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have signalled their intent to keep hold of Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji beyond the end of his loan deal, according to the Metro.

The Senegalese full-back only joined the Blues last summer from French outfit Nantes, but struggled to make an impact on the squad and was shipped out on loan to Bremen during the January transfer window.

And since his arrival, he has made five appearances in which he has impressed, and the club have gone on to confirm that they want to keep hold of him beyond the end of the season, despite there being no option to extend his stay beyond the end of the season.

However, Bremen CEO Thomas Eichin has stated that they would like to work out a new loan deal for next season as they would not be able to afford to buy him outright.

“If Chelsea want to sell him, we’d be without a chance but should they want to get him more playing time first, we’d be in the mix,” said Eichin.
