Joey Barton has glowing praise for PSG star after Chelsea bout; three years after ‘obese ladyboy’ comments

Only three years after slamming Paris Saint-Germain star Thiago Silva, Joey Barton has finally changed his opinion on the defender.

Indeed, the Burnley midfielder showered the centre-back with some glowing praise following his performance against Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

PSG took the lead in their rematch against the English champions [the two played against each other in both of the last two UCL campaigns] through a deflected Zlatan Ibrahimovic free kick, and while the Blues equalised via John Obi Mikel, a late Edinson Cavani goal handed the French giants the win.

Speaking to L’Equipe [via Sports.fr] after the match, Barton offered some major praise to the Brazil defender.

“For me, the most important thing is Thiago Silva,” the former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder began, “he gives feeling to everything he organises from the back.

“He is defensively impressive, and also he talks a lot, giving advice where he needs to,” Barton continued. “His presence is vital.”

Barton’s comments come three years after he slammed the defender as being overpriced and for resembling an overweight transsexual, even if he later modified his comments.

“I have to withdraw what I said yesterday about that fact that Thiago Silva is overpriced,” Barton chided, “but he still looks like an obese transsexual.”
