Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has backed his midfielder Marcelo Brozovic to become a ‘great midfielder’.

Speaking to the media after the Nerazzuri’s 3-1 victory over Sampdoria in Serie A action this weekend, a result that puts the Lombardy heavyweights in pole position to secure a Champions League return, Mancini has lavished his player with praise.

“Brozovic and Melo played a very good match,” the coach told the media in his post-match press conference. “Marcelo can, over time, be even better. I assure you that he will become a great midfielder.”

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old in recent months, and were quoted £15.2 million for the player, who is on loan at Inter from his parent club Dinamo Zagreb, during the January transfer window [CalcioMercato].

Inter may also look to rival the Gunners for the permanent signing of the Croatia international, while both Chelsea and Manchester United are understood to have monitored the player’s progress.

Brozovic has featured 21 times for the Nerazzurri so far this season, and has scored three goals and contributed two assists.

The Gunners are likely to be in the market for new central midfielders during the summer, with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Santi Cazorla all the wrong side of 30 and are all coming to the end of their current contracts at the season’s finale.
