A much-changed Manchester City side will take to the field of play against Dinamo Kiev on Wednesday in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Citing fixture pile-ups, Manuel Pellegrini handed 5 players their debut in the 5th round FA cup clash with Chelsea although the move back-fired as City went down 5-1.
The defeat was the club’s third on the trot following back to back league defeats to Leicester City and Spurs and Pellegrini will be keen to avoid a fourth set-back especially with a Capital One Cup final against Liverpool looming large.
The likes of Joe Hart, Raheem Sterling, Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho, Gael Clichy, Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure are all set to return while Kevin De Bruyne (knee), Fabian Delph (Achilles), Samir Nasri (thigh), Eliaquim Mangala and Jesus Navas (both hamstring) will all miss out with Bacary Sagna (knee) and Wilfried Bony (calf) unlikely to start.
With his side missing out on the FA Cup, keeper Hart is keen for success and believes his side is capable of going all the way in Europe’s premier competition.
“We’ve got to believe that [City can win the Champions League], or else there is no point in turning up on Wednesday,” the England number one told his club’s official website.
“We’ve got to believe that we’ve got what it takes. You know, it’s the best of the best, and if you’re not at your best you will lose, simple as that, in this competition. So it’s all about peaking for the game and being in the right place at the right time.
“The majority of the time when it comes to the Champions League we’re still fighting on all fronts, and this is a good time to be a Manchester City player and a good time to be fighting.”
Kiev are managed by former Spurs striker Serhiy Rebrov. The Ukrainian side drew at home to Chelsea in the group stages, suffering their only loss in the reverse fixture.
As far as the match outcome is concerned, on paper Manchester City should take a first leg lead back to the Etihad, however its clear that since the news that Pep Guardiola would be arriving next season that the players have simply not performed.
11/4 on the home win is dripping with value and we expect Kiev to make things difficult for City tonight and take a narrow lead to England for the return leg.
