Spurs will be without two key players when they take to the field of play against Fiorentina later tonight for the 2nd leg of their last 32 Europa league clash.
Striker Harry Kane will miss out with a broken nose sustained in the FA cup loss to Crystal Palace while Mousa Dembele is out with a groin strain.
Dembele is out for up to 2 weeks although Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that Kane will be available for the Premier League clash with Swansea at the weekend.
“We expect and hope he will be available on Sunday [to face Swansea],” the Argentine coach told reporters, adding “Today he wasn’t here as he is seeing a specialist about his nose.”
Pochettino also revealed that he has spoken with midfielder Deli Alli, set to feature, about his conduct after he appeared to drag his foot over Nenad Tomovic during last week’s first leg.
“We had a chat and it was very good,” Pochettino said “He is a very nice guy and a very good person but is very competitive on the pitch.
“He showed very good maturity against Crystal Palace, he was calm and played well. That showed his character and he improved his behaviour on the pitch. It was a natural chat and he showed for the future he learned a lot after that.”
The tie is finely poised after a 1-1 draw in Tuscany with Federico Bernardeschi equalising for the home side after Nacer Chadli put Spurs ahead from the penalty spot, and we are all set for what should be an entertaining tie at White Hart Lane.
The pair met in last season’s competition with Fiorentina prevailing 3-1 on aggregate and the London side will hope to gain a measure of revenge for that exit.
Pochettino’s side have won all three home games in the Europa League this season, beating FK Qarabag of Azerbaijan, Anderlecht and Monaco.
The tie looks perfectly poised with the White Hart Lane faithful hoping for passage into the next round, but Fiorentina are certain to be tricky opponents to overcome.
That said, the 10/11 on the Tottenham looks a very handy price all things considered, and its one that should attract plenty of attention. Fiorentina are available at 3/1 which does offer a touch of value considering their domestic form, however its difficult to back against a Spurs side which is really going places this season.
Can Tottenham’s season get any better?
We’re backing Pochittino’s men to make the hat for the next round.
