Jurgen Klopp mocks Manchester after “cool” Europa League draw and before Capital One Cup final

The Europa League draw handed Liverpool a last-16 tie with fierce rivals Manchester United earlier today.

But Liverpool must first do battle with the other half of Manchester as the Reds face City in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley this Sunday.

Merseyside and Manchester are far from being the best of friends, so Liverpool fans may well have enjoyed their manager’s cheeky dig at this afternoon’s press conference.

When a reporter quizzed Klopp about his tactics for Sunday’s final, the affable German responded with a joke.

“I should not talk here about tactics, don’t you think?” Klopp was quoted as saying by The Independent. “Even in Manchester they have televisions.”

Klopp also said that the Europa League draw had given many people at the club exactly what they were hoping for.

“It’s great. We deserve these games, with the game yesterday. Obviously it is not easy, but you can ask my staff, when they asked me yesterday ‘who do you want?’ I said ‘Manchester United’,” Klopp added.

“I think we have to clear something. We had a good game when I was here when we played against them, but we lost 1-0. It was not what we deserved on that day, but we got it.

“Life gives us the chance to make it better and that’s what we have to do, and what we’ll try.

“In this round, there were no easy games so we had no chance for an easy game. So we have Manchester United – cool!”

Klopp’s Liverpool booked their place in the draw by beating Augsburg 1-0 on aggregate thanks to James Milner’s penalty at Anfield on Thursday night, while United overcame a 2-1 first-leg deficit to defeat Midtjylland to go through 6-3.
