Santi Cazorla injury: Arsenal midfielder denies setback rumours and reveals return date

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has taken to his official Twitter account to dismiss suggestions that he has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury.

Sky Sports reported that the Spaniard could miss the rest of the season with an Achilles problem sustained in his rehabilitation from knee ligament surgery.

Even Gunners manager Arsene Wenger indicated that the 31-year-old’s comeback – he last played in November – would be delayed because of an inflamed Achilles.

“Santi is not doing too well,” Wenger told Sky. “He has some Achilles problems that hold him back. His knee is doing well but his Achilles has inflamed a little bit and we have to put him off impact.

But Cazorla has contradicted what his manager said by insisting that the reports in the press were false, and revealing that is he targeting April 1 to make his return.

Having Cazorla back for the Premier League title run in would be a massive boost for Arsenal. The playmaker is so critical to balancing their midfield.

He struck up an excellent partnership with Francis Coquelin which helped the Gunners to the top of the table prior to Christmas. They are now third in the standings.

Arsenal will hope that they are still in contention by the time that Cazorla is up and running again. They face Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion and Everton before the end of April.

Cazorla has made 168 appearances for the Londoners since joining from Malaga in 2012, scoring 27 goals and contributing 42 assists during his four seasons at the club.
