Manchester United & Manchester City in unlikely battle to sign Premier League clean sheet specialist

Manchester United and Manchester City will go head-to-head to sign West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna this summer, according to The Sun.

The Sun understands that both of the Premier League giants are looking to bolster their resources at centre-back, and fancy the 27-year-old.

Ogbonna has made 17 top-flight starts for the Hammers this season and has helped them to clean sheets in over half of those matches – nine.

The Italian has stood out for his speed and power as well as his ability to read the game in his impressive debut season in England.

He also has excellent pedigree from his time at Juventus – where he helped them to successive Serie A titles and played in the Champions League.

City have had all sorts of defensive problems this campaign, with captain Vincent Kompany spending much of the season nursing injuries.

The Red Devils could also do with defensive reinforcements, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo spending as much time on the sidelines as they do on the pitch.

West Ham would not want to lose Ogbonna and might hope that securing Champions League football would be enough to persuade him to stay.
