Last night was a pretty satisfying one for Liverpool as they exacted some revenge on Manchester City for their Capital One Cup final defeat with a 3-0 beating of Manuel Pellegrini’s men at Anfield.
And Joe Allen nearly put the icing on the cake with this sensational goal-of-the-season contender!

The ball sat up absolutely perfectly for the Reds midfielder to attempt an audacious 30-yard volley, which had England goalkeeper Joe Hart panicking before it landed on the roof of the net.
Allen’s effort was reminiscent of one of the best goals that Anfield has ever seen from Luis Suarez against Norwich City in 2013. Allen struck his volley just as sweetly, but couldn’t quite pull it off!
A goal such as this one would have been just what the Wales international needed as he fights for his Liverpool future, with The Guardian reporting that he could be sold at the end of the season.
Competition for places and injuries have prevented the 25-year-old from making a significant impact since joining from Swansea City in 2012, although he has had his moments under Jurgen Klopp.
He scored a last-minute equaliser in January’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal, and the decisive spot kick in the League Cup semi-final with Stoke City. He very nearly had another moment last night.
