Arsenal star claims ‘lack of hunger’ behind club’s failures

Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has questioned whether or not his teammates have the hunger to go on and win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners slipped to a disastrous defeat at home to Swansea City in midweek, which in turn now sets up a decisive north London derby against Tottenham on Saturday.

Another defeat could end their title push, and Sanchez believes that the entire squad now needs to step up and show that they believe they can win the league this season.

“If we go out on to to the pitch with hunger to become champions, to win the Premier League or the Champions League we can achieve it,” he told DirecTV, as noted by Sky Sports.

“There are great players here, I train with them daily and they have got the mentality and the desire to win.

“But sometimes we lack the hunger, the mentality that we are winning 1-0 when we go out on to the pitch.

“Sometimes we lack this hunger to believe that we can be champions. To go out on to the pitch feeling that we are already winning 1-0.”

The Gunners are now without a win in their last four games in all competitions, with their last victory coming against Leicester City on February 14.

That poor run of form has seen them slip six points off the pace behind the Foxes, while Spurs sit three points above them. With the pressure building on Arsene Wenger to turn things around sooner rather than later, the French tactician will be desperate to get a reaction from his players as they travel to White Hart Lane this weekend knowing that they can ill-afford dropping any more points.
