Former Liverpool & Chelsea manager tipped for Premier League return if troubled manager gets sacked

News about Rafa Benitez has been hard to come by since he was fired by Real Madrid earlier this season. However, it appears that the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager is being tipped to make a return to the Premier League before the 2015-16 season comes to an end.

According to the Metro, Benitez has been linked to the Newcastle United position tentatively held by Steve McClaren. Per the source, the former Real Madrid boss would be brought in to replace the embattled McClaren and help the struggling club stave off relegation. The Magpies are 19th on the table but are only two points from safety as of writing.

The job at Newcastle United would undoubtedly be a major drop from his previous managerial roles, and the least prolific role for him in 15 years. However, considering his inability to get the most out of a talent-loaded Real Madrid roster, a strong showing with any minnow might go a long way in showing he hasn’t lost his touch.
