Liverpool news: Klopp targeting not one, but TWO Simon Mignolet replacements this summer

Although Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will still be under contract at Anfield for the foreseeable future, there’s very little guarantee that he’ll retain his spot as the starter if he keeps struggling the way he has for most of the year. With a large transfer purse expected to be handed to him this summer, manager Jurgen Klopp has two replacement candidates on his radar.

According to the Metro, Klopp is scouting two top British goalkeepers to replace Mignolet next season: Southampton stopper Fraser Forster and Stoke City stopper Jack Butland.

Forster notably set a club record with six straight clean sheets from January through February – with a 10-save performance against Arsenal sticking out on his resume. Butland is tied with David de Gea and Heurelho Gomes for third in the league with 10 clean sheets.

Mignolet signed a five year extension with Liverpool earlier this season but his frequent head-scratching defending decisions as well as often-exposed weaknesses have drawn frequent criticism. The 37 goals allowed by Liverpool – nearly all under Mignolet’s watch – are the second most of any top-ten team in the Premier League.
