Video: Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud completes rare right-footed brace v Hull in timely return to form

Posted by

Olivier Giroud has been having such a bad time with his left foot that he turned to his weaker right foot to end his barren goalscoring run in Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Hull City tonight.

Giroud helped the holders into the quarter-finals with one goal either side of the break. This effort on the stretch from Theo Walcott’s cross showed that his right foot is more than merely a swinger!

The 29-year-old had only scored one of his previous 17 goals this season with his right peg, with nine coming from his left foot and seven from perhaps his most potent weapon – his head.

So the manner of his brace against the Tigers was most unexpected. Although, he could have knocked his first goal in with his backside, such was the simplicity of the task that David Meyler left him.

The Frenchman will hope that his right-foot form can be transported across his body and get him firing again after he ended a 12-game goal drought – his worst form since he joined the Gunners.

Arsenal certainly need Giroud to return to form quickly. The Londoners have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games and have slipped eight points behind leaders Leicester City.

Walcott scored Arsenal’s other two goals as they booked a last-eight tie with Watford.
