Having fallen behind to Adrien Rabiot’s opener, Chelsea got back into their clash with PSG on Wednesday night through Diego Costa.
The Ligue 1 champions started the game well, and carved up several opportunities although the likes of Angel Di Maria and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were denied.
However, it wasn’t long before they finally found their breakthrough with Ibrahimovic setting up Rabiot to give them a 3-1 cushion on aggregate.
While it seemed as though the visitors looked comfortable for the most part, Chelsea began to fight their way back into proceedings and caught the French outfit in possession in midfield on numerous occasions.
In turn they looked to threaten Kevin Trapp’s goal and finally found their equaliser on the night through some excellent play before Costa shrugged off Thiago Silva and sent an effort into the back of the net.
As the Blues continued to press forward in a bid to turn the tie around, Laurent Blanc’s men appeared to lose some of their momentum and will have been thankful to hear the half-time whistle.
Nevertheless, it sets up an intriguing second half with Chelsea needing another goal to send the game into extra-time, although another away goal for PSG would certainly be disastrous for Guus Hiddink’s side who would need to find an inspirational response in order to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
