Rafael Benitez salary: Newcastle make Spaniard ninth-highest paid manager in the world

Rafael Benitez has been brought in to save Newcastle United from Premier League relegation. It is a big job, but he is being paid an awful lot to do it!

The Mirror is reporting that the former Liverpool boss will earn £4m a year at St James’ Park, making him the ninth-highest paid manager in the world.

According to The Mirror, Pep Guardiola will become the world’s best paid manager on £15m per season when he takes over at Manchester City in the summer.

And Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal complete the Premier League monopoly of the top four.

The salary of Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid is not yet known, but The Mirror claims that only four other managers earn more than Benitez will at Newcastle.

Those are PSG boss Laurent Blanc and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique, as well as Sven-Goran Eriksson (Shanghai SIPG) and Andre Villas-Boas (Zenit St Petersburg).

Benitez will take charge of his first Magpies game at leaders Leicester City on Monday, with Newcastle one point from safety and having lost their last three games.

If he keeps them up after the mess that predecessor Steve McClaren and the Newcastle recruitment team have left him in, he would certainly have earned his money.
