Everton striker Romelu Lukuku scored a wonder solo goal against Chelsea on Saturday to send his side through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
The Belgian international called for the ball down the left flank and forced his way through Cesar Azpilicueta and Nemanja Matic, and as he drove into the area he was able to beat challenges from Jon Obi Mikel and Gary Cahill before stroking home brilliantly.
In a game short of chances and action, it was certainly the highlight of the encounter as the home side pushed on to try and upset the odds and send Guus Hiddink’s men crashing out.
Nevertheless, Lukaku, formerly of Chelsea, deserves plenty of credit for showing great strength, skill and perseverance to bully his way through the opposing defence before keeping his composure to beat Thibaut Courtois.
Furthermore, he wasn’t done there as he added a second goal just minutes later to make the result safe, with Diego Costa seeing red for lashing out at Gareth Barry.
With replays showing that the Spaniard looked to have bit the neck of his rival, with whom he had clashed with earlier in the game, he can arguably expect a lengthy suspension as his poor temperament got the better of him yet again at a cost to his teammates.
