Manchester United ace to reject transfers for new contract

Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata will reportedly turn down a chance to leave Old Trafford in preference for a new deal with the club.

The Spaniard has faced an uncertain future with speculation suggesting that Jose Mourinho will replace Louis van Gaal in the summer, with the Portuguese tactician already selling him during their time together at Chelsea.

However, Mata has made it clear that he wishes to stay at United, and is waiting to agree on new terms to extend his current deal, according to The Daily Star.

According to the report, he is keen to sign an extension on his current £130,000-per-week contract which expires in two years time, despite having several options available.

It is suggested that former club Valencia are interested, but the 27-year-old will continue to fight for his place in Manchester with a view of helping the team win silverware next season.

Although there is a possibility that the Red Devils will invest heavily in the squad again this summer, Mata has been their most creative midfielder this season and has impressed for the most part.

Given his characteristics and lack of alternatives currently at Old Trafford, it would seem like a smart decision on the club’s part to tie down his long-term future.

Nevertheless, if Mourinho is to take the hot-seat this summer, then both parties will have to make their intentions clear in order to avoid disharmony further down the line.
