Manchester United striker Anthony Martial rescued his side on Sunday with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at Old Trafford.
With a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at stake, it was Dimitri Payet who handed the visitors the lead with a sensational free-kick that left David De Gea hapless.
As it looked as though the Hammers would be joining Crystal Palace, Everton and Watford in the last four, United supporters were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief when Martial converted Ander Herrera’s cross.
Although replays suggested that Bastian Schweinsteiger had impeded Darren Randolph, referee Martin Atkinson didn’t spot it which in turn ensured that the goal stood.
Both sides had chances in the closing stages as they went on the counter attack in a frenetic end to the game, but neither were able to find a winning goal and had to settle for a replay.
With United looking to overturn a two-goal deficit in their Europa League tie with Liverpool next week, the FA Cup arguably represents their best shot at silverware this season. As a result, boss Louis van Gaal will likely put out a strong line-up again in the replay at Upton Park later this month and many will be hoping to see another enthralling encounter.
