‘I love Jose’: Arsenal legend wants Mourinho to replace Wenger

Posted by

Ian Wright believes former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho would be a real success at Arsenal if he were to replace Arsene Wenger, and has given the unlikely move his blessing, as reported by BT Sport (via the Express).

The Arsenal legend admits the unemployed Portuguese manager is not likely to get anywhere near Arsenal, as many fans would be absolutely outraged at his appointment. He’s clearly a fan of the controversial boss though, and believes it would be an excellent move.

“Arsenal fans would be up in arms,” Wright said.

“But, I love Jose. If he went to Arsenal, it wouldn’t be something that I would be against.

“I can’t see it ever happening though.”

He’s not wrong about one thing, it’s incredibly hard to see Mourinho getting or taking the job at Arsenal. Most Arsenal fans would be furious if the board were to bring him in, on top of which the philosophy at Arsenal wouldn’t really suit him. Mourinho is known for coming into a club and totally reshaping things, selling players that don’t suit his style and bringing in a number of already established stars. That’s just not the Arsenal way, and majority owner Stan Kroenke doesn’t look like changing his ways any time soon.

While Arsene Wenger has certainly lost the faith of large parts of the fan-base, his successor needs to be picked carefully. We’ve all seen the impact new management can have, and although many Arsenal fans are desperate to get rid of Wenger, they wouldn’t want to experience the same situation as Manchester United with David Moyes.

All this is ignoring the fact that Mourinho already seems Man United bound (via the Express), so it doesn’t appear as though he’d be available even if Arsenal wanted him.

Mourinho has a terrible history with Arsenal and their fans, and it really would be a massive surprise were he to end up replacing Arsene Wenger.
