Manchester United striker Anthony Martial gave his side a 1-0 lead against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Thursday night, halving their aggregate lead.
The Frenchman not only earned the penalty himself with some great trickery in the box, but he was also able to pick himself up and stay calm to cooly slot past Simon Mignolet from the spot.
Having been a threat throughout the game thus far, he halved Liverpool’s lead on aggregate with both sides having had chances with Simon Mignolet and David De Gea forced into great saves.
While United did look in control for the majority of the opening 45 minutes, they were dealt arguably a killer blow just seconds before the whistle as Philippe Coutinho produced a magical piece of play to draw his side level.
With the away goal for Jurgen Klopp’s men, United now need to score three goals in order to advance to the Europa League quarter-finals, and they will have to rely on Martial to inspire them to what is seemingly an unlikely comeback.
