Controversial pundit claims Man City or Arsenal will miss out on Champions League

Michael Owen really splits opinion among football fans, with the BT pundit known for his controversial views. His latest questionable moment came ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Everton, with the former Manchester United man claiming either Arsenal or Manchester City would crash out of the top four before the end of the season (via BT Sports).

Pretty much every season Owen predicts that Arsenal won’t make the top four (via the Daily Mail), and this one is no different. He’s hedged his bets a little this time around though, claiming this time it could be Manuel Pellegrini’s side who miss out.

This theory isn’t as mad as some of the bizarre stuff he’s come out with previously, and with West Ham in fantastic form and just two points behind City it’s certainly possible. But coming from Owen, it’s hard to take these predictions seriously, as the player turned pundit spouts similar nonsense on a consistent basis – and is never proved right.

With the way things are going this season anything could happen really, and if Leicester or Tottenham can lift the title then West Ham can certainly break into the top four. There are still plenty of games to go though, and with Arsenal and City currently holding onto the third and fourth spots it’s a tall order for the Hammers to break in.

All three teams have pretty tricky fixtures this weekend, with Arsenal up against Everton, Man City in a derby clash with Manchester United, and West Ham with a difficult game away to a resurgent Chelsea. This weekend could go a long way towards deciding the final standings, and seeing whether Owen’s predictions come true.
