Danny Welbeck has been in great form since his return from injury, and his excellent performance against Everton – capped with a goal – have Arsenal fans calling time on Olivier Giroud’s Arsenal career.
The French forward comes in for a lot of criticism from his own fans, much of it rather unfair. You can’t deny that Welbeck has looked a far better option in recent weeks though, scoring goals and creating chances for his teammates too.
Arsenal fans clearly think the Everton game was proof that Arsene Wenger needs to be playing Welbeck over Giroud, and didn’t hold any punches as they took to social media.

Welbeck’s form since returning from injury has been impressive. Prefer him over Giroud any day.

Giroud’s Career

For me Welbeck starts over Giroud every time. Works harder, imposes himself better.

Welbeck’s pace, power, and desire really helped Arsenal get going against the Toffees this past Saturday, and his great movement – combined with some good work from Hector Bellerin, Alexis Sanchez, and Mesut Özil – allowed him to grab the first goal with just seven minutes on the clock.
Giroud has shown his quality in an Arsenal shirt at times, but despite his strengths, he has far too many weaknesses. The 29-year-old offers power, but no pace; while Theo Walcott offers pace, but no power. Danny Welbeck brings both to the game, and while there may well be a time when all three would be ideally suited, at the moment it looks like the former Manchester United man is first choice.

An end to Giroud’s Arsenal career seems a little premature, but he may well have to wait patiently for his chance to displace the in-form Danny Welbeck.
