The ex-Sunderland winger learned his fate at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday, where it was also confirmed that he would be stripped of his 12 England caps.
As per Sky Sports, the wideman could have received up to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a minor earlier in the month.
The former Manchester City midfielder pleaded guilty to two other charges and has been punished with a six-year sentence.
Sky Sports [as above] also acknowledge that he could have received up to 14 years in prison for his offences, while as confirmed by the Telegraph, he has been stripped of the 12 England caps he won between 2010 and 2012.
The 28-year-old won the FA Cup and the Premier League with Manchester City, having begun his career with Middlesbrough. He moved to Sunderland in 2012 but was sacked by the Black Cats earlier this year.
