Obama couldn’t fulfil daughters’ wish of meeting Barcelona great Messi…but the Pope was no problem

Barack Obama has admitted that while he succeeded in presenting his daughters to the Pope, he was unable to arrange a meeting with Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.

Speaking to young entrepreneurs at the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative Town Hall in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Obama has confirmed that he failed to fulfil Malia and Sasha’s wishes and set up a rendezvous with the diminutive playmaker.

“I also wanted to bring my daughters here, so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of this city,” the President of the United States began, as per a White House memorandum.

“They’ve already met one famous Argentinean — His Holiness Pope Francis. Now they want to meet Messi, but I could not arrange that.”

The President’s daughters surely missed an ideal opportunity to meet the Barca star, who typically resides in Catalonia but is currently back in South America on international duty.

The Albiceleste continue their World Cup qualifying campaign away at Chile on Thursday evening, before hosting Bolivia on Wednesday.

To date, Messi and Co. have struggled to impress in CONMEBOL qualification, having won only one of their four matches to date. While South American qualifying is tough, the regional heavyweights will surely be disappointed to have taken only five points from their opening four matches.

One questions whether Obama’s daughters will consider a meeting with His Holiness the Pope to be fair consolation for missing out on a rendezvous with Messi!
