Liverpool international wanted by Euro giants; big-money hitman could be set for exit

La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid are understood to be keen on signing Liverpool forward Christian Benteke.

According to the Mirror, the Spanish giants have joined the hunt for the Belgium international, but may have to see off competition from his burgeoning list of suitors for the striker’s signature.

The forward only moved to Anfield during the summer, but he has wholly failed to realise his potential and demonstrate his class on Merseyside.

Benteke left Aston Villa in a £32.5 million deal [fee via BBC Sport], but has only managed to score seven goals in the Premier League so far this season.

The attacker has managed 25 showings this term, but he’s only started 12 league matches and has become something of a peripheral figure under Jurgen Klopp, who appears not to consider the 25-year-old as a viable candidate to lead the line for his new-look Liverpool.

Indeed, Benteke has scored only once so far in 2016—in the away win over Crystal Palace—and he has played 90 minutes in the league on just one occasion since the New Year.
