Predicted Tottenham XI vs. Liverpool: Match preview as Spurs look to keep pressure on EPL leaders

Posted by

Tottenham Hotspur return from the international break with their sights set on overhauling Leicester City between now and the season’s end.

Spurs sit in second after 31 matches, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side having claimed 61 points, five fewer than Claudio Ranieri’s unlikely league leaders.

With the Foxes facing a tricky test against Southampton on Sunday, Spurs could close the gap to just two points should they defeat Jurgen Klopp’s unconvincing Liverpool side at Anfield on Saturday.

Spurs have lost just two league games in 2016, and they certainly have the quality—and the momentum—to trouble the Reds on Merseyside.

Predicted Tottenham XI

Jan Vertonghen remains absent, but Kevin Wimmer has impressed in recent weeks and months, and his presence alongside Toby Alderweireld and ahead of Hugo Lloris makes for an excellent central defensive trio.

Kyle Walker and Danny Rose—both of whom impressed in patches for England during the international break—will likely start in the wide defensive roles, with Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele presenting a tenacious and positionally astute central midfield pairing.

Harry Kane will lead the line, in tandem with Dele Alli, whose presence at No. 10 will likely see Christian Eriksen shunted out to the left flank.

Erik Lamela returns from a testing international break with Argentina, and might be fit enough to start on the right, with Son Heung-min and Nacer Chadli waiting in the wings should the former AS Roma star miss out.
