Chelsea midfielder bags double as Dutch giants end winless run

On-loan Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel bagged a brace as PSV Eindhoven defeated AZ Alkmaar 4-2 in Eredivisie action on Saturday.

The win was the Dutch giants’ first in four matches following something of a mini slump, and sees them provisionally move to the top of the table.

PSV are one point clear of Ajax, who will surely be confident of moving back above their bitter rivals when they host fierce rivals FC Zwolle at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday.

Gaston Pereiro opened the scoring for the visitors after 13 minutes, before van Ginkel doubled PSV’s lead with a second half an hour later.

Luciano Narsingh added a third on the hour mark before van Ginkel—who spent the first portion of the season on loan at Stoke City—confirmed victory with a fourth four minutes later.

AZ rallied late and scored twice within four minutes, through Jop van der Linden and Muamer Tankovic, although it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
