Roma secured bragging rights in the Eternal City on Sunday with a 4-1 win over city rivals Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in the Derby Della Capitale.
The Giallorossi took a commanding lead through goals from Stephan El Shaarawy and Edin Dzeko, although Marco Parolo handed the ‘hosts’ a lifeline to half their lead in the second half.
However, their hopes of a comeback were ended soon after by Florenzi, with the man with Roman roots undoubtedly enjoying his goal as he looks to step up and become the next symbol of the club following in the footsteps of Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.
With Luciano Spalletti’s side in the ascendency, Diego Perotti added a fourth as they secured a comprehensive win which in turn boosted their hopes of finishing in third place.
Roma now hold a seven-point lead over fourth-placed Fiorentina with seven games remaining, although Inter will be looking to cut into that gap when they take on Torino on Sunday night as they sit just a point further adrift.
However, it is difficult to ignore the momentum and improvement in form under Spalletti since his arrival in January, and Roma will undoubtedly be full of confidence in the latter stages of the campaign as they look to seal a spot in the Champions League next season.
