Manchester United ace’s leaked contract shows £1m pay cut next season

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay could potentially have to take a £1 million pay cut if he stays at the club next season, according to a leaked copy of his contract.

As reported by The Sun, Football Leaks have continued their bid to release details about footballers across Europe, with the Dutchman their latest ‘victim’.

It has been revealed that Depay is currently being paid £109,000-per-week, but his salary will reduce to £93,500-per-week from next season if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

In turn, it promises to be a crucial few weeks coming up for both the club and its players for various reasons, including financial ones as it is likely that other contracts will have similar stipulations.

Meanwhile, Depay’s salary will go up £1.3m every season the club qualifies for the Champions League, and he gets an additional £20,000 bonus for every game that he starts and £10,000 for each substitute appearance.

Furthermore, he’ll earn a £250,000 bonus should he start 20 games each season, which he is currently six short of meeting so far this season.

There are further details which have been leaked which include United providing him with 10 economy return flight tickets between Manchester and the Netherlands per annum, with Depay having to pick up the slack if he wishes to upgrade.

Nevertheless, it is on the pitch where his real problems lie as he has failed to have the desired effect at Old Trafford in his first season in England this year.

The former PSV star has managed just five goals and four assists in 37 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and it is particularly disappointing given the level of expectation surrounding his arrival in the summer.

Louis van Gaal has been unable to get the best out of him this year, but United fans will be hoping that it is merely an adjustment period with better performances to come next season.
