Louis Saha has revealed his belief that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku would take his game to the next level if he were to join Manchester United.
Speculation continues to link the Belgian international with a move to Old Trafford this summer, with the Metro reporting that the Red Devils will have to pay £65m to sign him.
Having scored 25 goals in all competitions this season, Lukaku has arguably outgrown Everton in a sense, as he will now look to move on to the next stage by featuring in the Champions League sooner rather than later.
Whether or not that is a smart move for the 22-year-old remains to be seen, but Saha is confident that a switch to United would work well for both parties.
“It’s clear that he’s among the players who are capable of going to play with the top clubs — whether it’s at Manchester United, who are definitely looking for a striker, or with a club in Spain,” Saha told Belgian broadcaster RTBF.
“All I hope is that he’s able to blossom and grows as a talent. At the moment, he’s still a talent and what we want for him is to confirm it so that he might become a really great player.”
Saha also tipped the youngster to play a decisive role for Belgium at Euro 2016, which will undoubtedly see his stock rise further which could turn out to be a negative for United who would be forced to fork out more to prise him away from Goodison Park.
However, with so much uncertainty still surrounding Louis van Gaal and the club moving forward, it is unclear at this stage as to whether the interest in Lukaku is real.
What is clear is that United will need to bolster their options up front in the summer, as they can’t afford to continue to solely rely on Marcus Rashford, particularly if they qualify for the Champions League.
Although the likes of Rashford and Anthony Martial have impressed this season, and with Wayne Rooney set to return from injury in the coming weeks, United need a top-class striker in their squad and Saha believes that Lukaku could be their man.
