Video: Tottenham run riot against Manchester United to send message to title rivals

Tottenham scored three goals in the space of six second-half minutes on Sunday in a 3-0 win over Manchester United at White Hart Lane.

Dele Alli opened the floodgates for the hosts after United had looked impressive for the most part in the opening period, but they were simply overwhelmed as Spurs took control of the game.

It wasn’t long before Toby Alderweireld headed home a second, before Lamela wrapped up the blitz with a wonderfully curled effort beyond David de Gea as the visitors had no answer.

The pressure was certainly on Mauricio Pochettino’s men ahead of kick off, with Leicester City opening the gap at the top of the table to 10 points following their 2-0 win over Sunderland.

In turn, in order to keep their title hopes alive, Tottenham had to respond and it looked as though they risked dropping points after the first hour passed without a breakthrough.

However, they showed their resolve and threat in the final third as they stepped up through the gears and stunned United with three well-taken goals in quick succession.

Pochettino will now prepare for the trip to Stoke City next weekend, while Leicester host West Ham United in what will be another critical round of fixtures in the Premier League title race.

The Foxes need three wins from their remaining five games to win the title, although Tottenham made it clear that they don’t intend on going anywhere and will continue to apply the pressure on Claudio Ranieri’s men.
