Manchester City will bid to secure their place in the final four of the Champions League when they take on French side PSG at the Etihad later this evening.
The Premier League side have the advantage following the first leg which finished 2-2. Thanks to the away goals in Paris, City will head into the clash knowing a 0-0, 1-1 or better yet a win will seal their place in the semi-finals.
They will have to do so without Vincent Kompany however. The Belgian defender has not played since suffering a calf injury as City drew 0-0 against Dynamo Kiev in March to reach the last eight and is has not recovered in time to add his experience to the defence.
Speaking ahead of the game his manager, Manuel Pellegrini revealed the club captain would miss out, telling reporters “He is not 100%. It is not possible.”
The English outfit will also be without Raheem Sterling for the clash however David Silva is set to be fit after missing the 2-1 win over WBA last weekend.
Nicholas Otamendi featured in that game but missed training on Monday. Despite his absence he is expected to feature at the heart of the defence as City look to make the final four for the first time in their history.
A crowd of 53,000 is expected at the Etihad, the biggest attendance ever for a European game.
PSG meanwhile will head to Manchester without centre-back David Luiz and midfielder Blaise Matuidi, both of whom miss out through suspension. Laurent Blanc’s men knocked out Chelsea in the last round but have not made it past the last 8 in each of the past three seasons.
In addition to missing the influential Luiz and Matuidi, Blanc is sweating on the fitness of Marco Veratti with the indications are the 23 year old midfielder will miss out with a groin injury.
We could be set for a classic tonight with Manchester City holding all the aces coming into the game with two away goals. 9/5 looks plenty big enough on the home win, while Pellegrini’s side are 4/6 to qualify.
PSG are actually favourites to come away with the win and progress at a shortish looking price of 6/4, which may put punters off all things considered, but on the other hand are 6/5 to qualify.
Those who wish to dip into the first goalscorer market may wish to back Kevin De Bruyne at a value looking price of 9/1, with the young Belgian looking very sharp in front of goal following his return from injury.
We should be set for another entertaining Champions League clash in Manchester, and following from the first leg tie, there’s everything to play for.
Don’t miss it.
