Leicester City’s Champions League odds are 2.5 times bigger than Man United’s

When will the bookies learn?

One Leicester City fan stuck £5 on his beloved Foxes at 5,000-1 to win the Premier League last summer, according to BBC Sport.

The bloke probably thought very little of his hopeful punt at first, but, as the season went on, the reality that his betslip could actually be worth £25,000 will have dawned on him.

With Leicester now seven points clear and odds-on to win the title, many more stories of fans with bets on Leicester at very long odds have emerged.

There is no doubt that the bookies underestimated Leicester. They won’t do that again, right?

Well, judging by Paddy Power’s Champions League odds, maybe they will.

Yesterday, Paddy Power quoted Leicester at 100-1 to win next season’s Champions League.

Now, 100-1 is a long way short of their previous 5,000-1 Premier League odds. But, when you consider that the Irish bookmaker are only offering 40-1 on Manchester United winning Europe’s top prize in 2017 – despite them looking unlikely to qualify – it seems that Leicester are being underestimated again.

United are four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City – who have a vastly significant goal-difference – with six games left to play.

Meanwhile, Leicester are 19 points ahead of United, having played one game more. Nevertheless, Paddy Power reckon the Foxes are 2.5 times less likely than the Red Devils to be crowned champions of Europe next season.

At least they refused to give odds on Liverpool, who must win the Europa League to qualify for next season’s Champions League. So, they’re not completely mad!
