Man United might end up paying dearly for waiting so long to decide whether Jose Mourinho is their next manager because one of the only teams capable of matching them dollar for dollar could bring the Special One to a Champions League club next season. Paris Saint-Germain could be in the market for a new manager after Laurent Blanc failed once again to bring the French giants past the Champions League quarter-finals and now the club may be setting their sights on Mourinho.
According to the Telegraph, despite winning three Ligue 1 titles and six national cups in less than three full seasons at PSG, Blanc’s repeated failures in the Champions League quarter-finals have apparently taken their toll on club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Following the team’s elimination from the tournament by Manchester City, the disappointed PSG boss pledged to evaluate Blanc’s status at the end of the season. However, he stopped short of saying outright that Blanc is on the hot-seat.
“We’re very disappointed,” Al-Khelaifi said after accusing Blanc of making a ‘tactical gamble’. “We’re going to reflect in order to know how to go further in the competition. Is this the end of a generation? No, I don’t think so.”
Per the source, should they decide to part ways with Blanc, PSG could very well target Jose Mourinho while Man United sit on their hands and waver on whether or not to let Louis van Gaal stay next season and play out his current contract.
Following the 1-0 loss at the Etihad, Al-Khelaifi acted skeptical of Blanc’s decision to play with a three-man defensive front.
