Barcelona president fumes after controversial Dani Alves wig video appears to mock UCL failure

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted that there has been some discontent following a controversial video released by Dani Alves.

The wideman took to Instagram in light of the Catalan giants’ Champions League quarter-final defeat by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening.

The reigning European champions won the first leg 2-1 after Luis Suarez’s double had cancelled out Fernando Torres’s opener, but came up short in the return match, when an Antoine Griezmann double settled the tie, before Barca were denied a late penalty after Gabi handballed in the box.

Alves, perhaps seeking to diffuse the bad feeling after the match, took to Instagram and shared a bizarre video during which—while wearing a wig—the Brazil international appeared to mock Barca’s fall.

Speaking about the clip on TV3 [as per Marca], club president Bartomeu revealed that there had been some discomfort among the Barca fans following the clip, hinting that he was sympathetic with some of the concerns.

“This morning, we awoke to [Alves’s video] about which there have been several reactions,” the club chief began. “The first is that the team have moved on from Wednesday’s elimination in Madrid and the costumes help to make jokes, laugh and be positive.
