HUGE double injury boost for Manchester City ahead of Newcastle clash

It looks like Manchester City will be back at full fitness on defence this week as Vincent Kompany returns from his latest injury to join the starting XI against Newcastle United. In the lineup will also be the returning Raheem Sterling, who will also be back from his injury suffered last month against Man United.

According to NBC Sports, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that Kompany and Sterling will both be in the squad against relegation-entrenched Newcastle on Tuesday. The Man City boss confirmed that the defensive captain will be a pivotal player in the match and expressed hope that Sterling will be able to earn some minutes after missing the last month due to an injury.

“Sterling and Kompany are both in the squad,” Pellegrini said. “Vincent will be an important help for the defence. It’s been a very important season and we have to keep fighting. Sterling is coming back and we’ll see if he can play some minutes tomorrow.”

The news will be very welcome for the team as they battle for one of the last spots in the Champions League while fighting other injuries. Star midfielder David Silva and Samir Nasri are expected to miss the match entirely.

“Sagna, also Clichy (are both back), Silva (ankle) and Nasri are out. Nasri – it’s a small muscle injury, it’s not too important, we’ll see how many days he’s out for.”

Man City own a narrow lead over Arsenal for third-place in the Premier League.
