Pele has made a new foray into the world of social media by joining Instagram.

On Monday the world football legend opened his account and welcomed his millions of fans from around the world to follow him on his post-football journey around New York City and the world.

“Hello, this is Edson. (But you can call me Pelé),” he wrote.

“I’m happy to be here on Instagram, to connect with friends around the world, and to share with you Brazil….my Brazil, the country that I love. Right now, I am in New York, my second home. I invite you to come with me wherever I go. Let’s keep the ball rolling!!”

Within a few hours, the three-time World Cup winner had nearly 90,000 followers. His official Twitter account already had 2.33 million followers.

Pele owns some of the world’s most incredible football records: 92 recorded hat-tricks, the most FIFA World Cup medals, 1283 goals in 1363 games, most goals in Brazil national team history and the youngest World Cup winner in history.

The 75-year-old Brazilian is considered the greatest football in world history and was named the FIFA World Player of the Century in 2000, beating out Argentina legend Diego Maradona by a wide margin for the accolade.
