Antonio Conte on verge of first Chelsea signing in form of £31m star

Chelsea are reportedly edging ever closer to securing the signing of Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan this summer.

The combative Belgian midfielder joined the Giallorossi in 2014 and has gone on to become an integral part of their success.

As they continue to fight for a top-three finish in Serie A this season, a move away from the Stadio Olimpico would seem to make little sense for the 27-year-old as he will be guaranteed a starting spot in a Champions League side next year.

However, the appeal of becoming part of Antonio Conte’s revolution at Stamford Bridge this summer could prove to be too strong to turn down.

According to Sky Sport Italia, as noted by The Express, Nainggolan will move to London in a £31million deal with the two parties coming closer to reaching an agreement.

Nainggolan arguably represents the perfect Conte signing, as the Italian tactician will value his commitment, tenacity and all-round ability at the heart of his side next season having built his success as a manager on moulding hard-working sides ready to give him maximum effort.

Furthermore, the Roma star is seemingly ready-made for the Premier League given his playing style, and so it would come as no surprise if he has indeed been made a priority by Conte.

Given the substantial transfer fee being touted, it is likely to be difficult for Roma to turn down. Coach Luciano Spalletti will look to strengthen his squad this summer, and although that may involve losing some key players first starting with Nainggolan, he could look to raise funds before investing back in the side.
