Arsenal plotting overdue midfield overhaul led by Premier League star

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly targeting Leicester City star N’Golo Kante and will make a move for him this summer.

The French ace has been a revelation this year as he has played an integral part in Claudio Ranieri’s side’s push for the Premier League title.

In turn, that has attracted interest from the top clubs around Europe, including Arsenal who are set to swoop for him this summer, according to The Sun.

Wenger is expected to lose both Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini at the end of the season, while it remains to be seen whether or not he keeps his faith in other fringe players as he could be further limited in his options next season.

As a result, he will need to strengthen and bolster his squad by replacing those who are set to depart with younger and more talented options.

It is reported that he has personally watched Kante on a number of occasions this season and has been left hugely impressed with the way he has adjusted to the Premier League in less than a year.

Wenger has previously conceded that he did monitor the Frenchman as a youngster, but even he is shocked as to how quickly he has adapted to English football.

Meanwhile, The Sun have also claimed that the veteran tactician has sent scouts to watch Switzerland international Granit Xhaka, who has impressed and continued to develop his game since joining Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012.

The overhaul doesn’t end there either, as the report claims that Wenger has also made Riyad Mahrez one of his top summer targets, with a view of the Leicester star replacing Theo Walcott who could well be set to leave the Emirates this summer afters years of failing to live up to expectations.

Given their failings this season, it is arguably well overdue that the Gunners make drastic changes to their squad. Based on recent speculation, perhaps Wenger is contemplating freshening things up.
