£32.5m Liverpool flop could be first major signing for Leicester City

The Premier League title comes with more than just a cute silver trophy, it comes with a massive financial windfall that the Leicester City ownership group appear more than willing to re-invest into the club’s roster next season. Interestingly, the Foxes appear to have their eyes on potential Liverpool castoff Christian Benteke as one of their first major targets.

According to the Metro via Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgian striker is on Claudio Ranieri’s radar for the summer after a disappointing first year at Anfield. Liverpool have appeared increasingly likely to sell Benteke after just one season due the team’s aggressive pursuit of other strikers and his frequency on the bench under manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 25-year-old Benteke scored 42 goals in 89 games for relegation-bound Aston Villa from 2012 to 2015, ultimately switching to Liverpool in a £32.5 million transfer move this past summer under former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.

However, in 36 games in all competitions Benteke has just nine goals – his lowest total in five years.
