Sky Sports pundit convinced Leicester City title-winning squad will fall apart this summer

Paul Merson has revealed his concern that Leicester City won’t be able to hold on to either N’Golo Kante or Riyad Mahrez this summer.

The Foxes pulled off one of the biggest upsets in sporting history this season by winning the Premier League, but it remains to be seen whether or not they can build on it.

Claudio Ranieri will hope to keep as many of his star players at the King Power Stadium as possible next season, but given the performances of the likes of Kante and Mahrez, it’s only a matter of time before bigger clubs from around Europe start knocking on their door.

“I worry Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante could leave,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“I don’t see a problem with [Leicester top scorer] Jamie Vardy, as I don’t think anyone will pay a lot of money for him at 29 years old, but the other two stars are a worry.

“Kante will be at the Euros and his France team-mates will be going: ‘Oh, my manager wants you’. That’s how it works and he’s going to have his head twisted.

“I’d be shocked if those two were there next season.”

It’s difficult to disagree with the former Arsenal and Aston Villa man, as both Kante and Mahrez have naturally attracted plenty of attention this season and will have their heads turned by the advances of some of the top clubs in Europe.

The ideal scenario would see them stay at Leicester and attempt to continue their success and upset the odds, but ultimately why feature in the Champions League with a side that is unlikely to advance beyond the group stages if a club with ambitions of winning it wants to sign them.

Ranieri and his players have done a sensational job this season, but those hoping that they could possibly repeat their heroics are likely to be left disappointed.
