Bayern Munich complete stunning double swoop as Manchester United left disappointed

Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Renato Sanches, while defender Mats Hummels has also agreed a move to join the Bundesliga champions.

As confirmed by Dortmund on their official website, Hummels will move back to Bavaria from rivals Dortmund ahead of next season, with speculation linking the German international with the move for some time.

Having made his intentions clear at the end of last month that he wished to return to his former club, it seemed to be a mere matter of time before it was granted.

The timing of the announcement is arguably strange and slightly awkward, given that the two clubs at the centre of the deal meet in the DFB Cup final on May 21 and so Hummels will naturally have to remain professional and help his current employers win another trophy.

Nevertheless, another deal that the German giants have confirmed is the signing of Portuguese starlet Renato Sanches from Benfica, in a deal worth €35m.

The youngster has passed his medical and signed a five-year deal to move to the Allianz Arena, and it comes as a bitter blow for Manchester United who had been linked with a move for him this summer, as noted by The Guardian.

Instead, he will head to Germany to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side next season, and coupled with the arrival of Hummels, Bayern appear to be going from strength to strength as they look to continue to dominate domestically.

However, the main objective for Ancelotti next year will be to achieve what predecessor Pep Guardiola failed to do, and that is secure a triumph in the Champions League as they continue to boast one of the strongest squads in European football.
