Opinion: Arsenal & Chelsea should get excited as exquisite playmaker’s contract talks stall

The likelihood of Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing in the Premier League next season have been boosted with the news that the playmaker’s contract talks with Borussia Dortmund have stalled.

According to the Mirror, London giants Chelsea and Arsenal are both keen on signing the BVB attacking midfielder, although the Bundesliga giants—conscious of the Armenia international’s value—are understood to be keen on tying him down to a new contract.

However, the tabloid report that the contract talks have hit a snag, with the 27-year-old—who is currently under contract until 2017—insisting that the German giants insert a buyout clause in his contract which would allow him to leave the club under certain conditions.

It’s easy to see why both the Gunners and the Pensioners are keen on signing the forward, who has scored 11 goals and contributed 15 assists for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season.

Mkhitaryan would suit both clubs, bout could be particularly valuable to Chelsea, who have seen attacking midfielders Willian and Eden Hazard both linked to the exit door this season.
